Have you set up an emergency contact on your phone?

Is your phone encrypted with a password? That means emergency responders cannot go through your contacts in case of an emergency or incident. Therefore, it is smart to set up an ICE (In Case of Emergency) contact. This ensures your emergency contacts can be accessed without unlocking your phone. Read here how to set it up.

Setting up an ICE contact on a Samsung device with Android 7.0 or 8.0.

  1. Go to the app ‘contacts’.
  2. Go to lists and then ‘groups’.
  3. Go to ‘ICE-contacts in case of emergency’.
  4. Tap ‘edit’.
  5. Tap ‘add member’.
  6. Select one or multiple contacts.
  7. Tap ‘done’.
  8. Click ‘save’.

Setting up an ICE contact on a Samsung device with Android 9.0 or higher

  1. Go to the app ‘contacts’.
  2. Tap on the three lines in the left top corner.
  3. Tap ‘contacts in case of emergency’.
  4. Tap on the three dots in the top right corner.
  5. Tap ‘edit group’.
  6. Tap ‘add member’.
  7. Select one or multiple contacts.
  8. Tap ‘done’.
  9. Tap ‘save’.

Setting up an ICE contact on another Android device

  1. Go to ‘settings’.
  2. Tap ‘safety and emergency’.
  3. Tap ‘information during an emergency’.
  4. Tap ‘add contact’.
  5. Select one contact.
  6. Wish to add more contacts? Repeat step 4 and 5.

Setting up an ICE contact on an iOS phone

  1. Go to the app ‘health’.
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right corner.
  3. Tap ‘medical ID’.
  4. Create a medical ID. Here you fill out your medical conditions, allergies, medicinal usage, blood type and more.
  5. Scroll down till the option ‘add emergency contact’. Select your contact.
  6. Ensure that all the way at the bottom of the screen, ‘show when locked’ is enabled.
  7. Tap ‘done’.
